These bold, artsy, flower earrings feature rare Russian Turquoise on both the front and back. The hand-forged steel is fused with bright copper. A soft Japanese brown patina highlights the copper. Wear these to community theatre or an Indie music festival.
PROCESS:
* I cut steel sheet and steel wire and cleaned them of all coatings and oils. The steel was cut so that the turquoise, which remains rough-hewn on the back, would poke through the back of the flowers.
* I then hand-hammered the steel into more sculptural flowers.
* Copper was fused to the sheets and wire using a very hot torch.
* I textured the back lightly with a bur.
* The pieces were assembled and soldered.
* I applied a brown patina to the entire flower. The patina was partially removed to reveal the texture of the copper on the front of the flower.
* Everything is carefully waxed and buffed.
* Finally, I set the Russian Turquoise.
