Although I live high in the Rocky Mountains, my heart is often at the ocean. After bicycling more than 1,000 miles along the Pacific Coast and scuba diving in Fiji, the sea began finding its way into my jewelry.
Bubbles in the Net captures that pull toward the water. Luminous freshwater pearls seem to float within an irregular, hand-formed net of sterling silver. The two earrings are intentionally different, giving them an organic asymmetry and a sense of movement.
These are pearls without the formality—sculptural, playful and wonderfully wearable. Wear them to a gallery dinner, lunch by the sea, or while slurping oysters on the half shell.
PROCESS: I soldered sterling silver wire together in an irregular grid and hammered the wires flat. I fused sterling silver powder to the “net” to replicate sea textures. I then curved the “net” into a 3D shape that I imagined it would be under water. Finally, I carefully soldered tiny prongs to hold the freshwater pearls.
