In September, I bicycled past innumerable oyster farms along the Washington State Coast and past the tourist attraction of the largest oyster shell in the world (see photos). I wondered about the pearl in that shell.
Freshwater Pearls, Sterling Silver
1 3/8” long x 1 3/8” wide x 5/8” tall
PROCESS: I soldered sterling silver wire together in an irregular grid and hammered the wires flat. I fused sterling silver powder to the “net” to replicate sea textures. I then curved the “net” into a 3D shape that I imagined it would be under water. Finally, I carefully soldered tiny prongs to hold the freshwater pearls.
